Principals Report

Welcome back to staff, students and parents for Term 3. We would especially like to welcome Mrs. Lindy Rahn who will be joining our teaching team and also Alessio and Aurelio who are joining us in Grade 5 and 3. On behalf of parents, staff and students I would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Scott Mackenlay, Mr. George Simonetis and our cleaning staff for the work they do in the holiday break to ensure our school grounds and classrooms are so well maintained. To the students of Holy Rosary Catholic School who competed in dance eisteddfods or sporting competitions during their holiday break we congratulate you on your achievements.
Last week our school celebrated the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations which ran from 8-15 July.
NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life in the spirit of reconciliation and support. NAIDOC Week presents a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support the process of reconciliation.
This year’s theme is a particularly poignant one, ‘Because of Her, We Can!’. The theme acknowledges the crucial role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played—and continue to play—at the community, local, state and national levels.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight, for justice, equal rights, rights to country, for law and justice, access to education, employment, and to maintain and celebrate their culture, language, music and art.
Most importantly though, they are mothers, elders, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and daughters in their communities. For at least 65,000 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have carried dreaming stories, song lines, languages and knowledge that have kept their culture strong and enriched. Thank you to Mrs. Dance and our Grade 6 students and ATSI students for leading us in our celebration assembly and liturgy on Monday.
Kind Regards
Bernadette Brooks

NAIDOC Week in Grade 2
Through the theme of NAIDOC Week ‘Because of her We Can’, Grade Two students have been learning about important Indigenous Women and the impact that they have had on Indigenous culture and life in history and today.
Students were required to select an Indigenous woman from the following list of women; Truganini, Fanny Cochrane-Smith, Faith Thomas, Dulcie Greeno, Rosalie Kunoth-Monks and Jane Sculthorpe and use the QR code reader on their iPads to scan the code to access information about them.
The students used that information to independently discover why they were important and the impact that they have had on Indigenous culture. We then used charcoal to sketch a portrait of them.

Student Council
In consultation with the Grade 6 student leaders we wanted to enable our students to have a more vocal voice in our school community. Our School Captains, Niah and Jack and School Vice Captains, Tyson and Shelbii were very active in conducting a very well run advertising campaign for representatives for our Student Council. Representatives for Grade 3 to 6 were elected in late Term 2 and received their badges at our Assembly on Monday. Congratulations to our Term 3 Student Council Leaders:
Grade 3- Matilda and Mikayla
Grade 4- Maddison, Tristan and Jayda
Grade 5- Bree and Caitlyn
Grade 6- Ruby and Holly

Kinder Bunnings Excursion
Kinder B and Kinder P enjoyed a visit to Bunnings this week.

Blokes on Board K-2
Another successful Blokes on Board for K to Grade 2 students and their Father, Grandfather and Uncles was held on Tuesday. Families were involved in an evening of activities focused on problem solving and mathematics. Thank you to our wonderful Canteen Staff, Alison Rumbold and Kylie McIntrye, for ensuring we had a beautiful meal to share, the K to 2 staff for organizing and coordinating the activities and all the families who joined us.

Parking and Pickups
Welcome back to our families for Term 3. We would like to thank you all for the efforts you are making to assist with the safety around after school pickups. The gates will remain shut until one of the staff open them and parents are reminded that there is to be no lining up over the drive way. Please continue to respect the parking expectations at the Wyndham Road Shopping Complex. We are concerned at the number of students being picked up from outside the shops and crossing the shopping carpark at such a busy time without an adult and are asking that parents do not arrange to pick up children outside the shops.

School Shoes and Uniform
In Term 2 we had our School Photos taken. On photo days each student in our school was in the correct uniform with the correct shoes and they all looked so impressive. It is so disappointing to note that students continue to come to school in the incorrect uniform and shoes and wearing sports uniforms on days when they do not have sport.
It is a school expectation that students wear formal leather school shoes with the formal school uniform. We are very happy for students to bring sandshoes to change into during the day and then change back into their formal school shoes to go home. In addition, parents are reminded that unless advised Sports Uniform for Grade 1 to 6 students is ONLY to be worn on the days that students have Physical Education or for Grade 5/6 students when they are involved in Friday Sport.
When you enrolled your child at Holy Rosary Catholic School all parents signed an agreement to uphold the expectations of our school and one of these is the wearing of the correct uniform. We really are relying on parents to help us by supporting and following these uniform expectations.
JoJo Bows
Further to our expectations for the correct wearing of our school uniform, JoJo bows are not a uniform item and therefore should not be worn to school. Whilst these bows are fashionable right now, the wearing of these bows should be restricted to outside school attire. Our uniform shop stocks hair accessories which can be worn as part of our school uniform.
