Principals Report

We are coming towards the end of the 2018 school year. It is a time when many of us can feel overwhelmed by the multitudes of things we need to get completed. Our students can also feel overwhelmed. Our Grade 6 students are thinking about their last weeks as Primary students, our other students are getting ready to move into the next class on their primary education journey. While the stresses and pressures of the end of term can impact on us all I urge all in our community to take the opportunity to enjoy these last weeks, and remember our many achievements this year.
On Thursday 29th November we hosted our Kindergarten to Grade 2 Athletics Carnival. It was on so many levels an outstanding day. The organisation by Mr Johnson, the set up and pack up by Mr Mackenlay and the student, staff and parental support made it a sensational day. The role that our Grade 6 Aussie Sports Leaders assumed on the day made the biggest impact. Their participation on the day certainly showed the growth and maturity of these students. Responsibility, Leadership and Independence are all skills we saw in abundance from our Grade Six students.
In the next two weeks there are many things happening daily in our school and the Schoolzine App and our Face-Book page is a good way to ensure that you are aware of the events.

A truly sensational Kinder – Grade 2 Athletics Carnival
Kind Regards
Bernadette Brooks
Principal
Reflection
ADVENT
Advent is a period of reflection, repentance and belief in Jesus Christ.
The church year in Australia begins on the First Sunday of Advent. Advent is originally a time to reflect and prepare for Christmas similarly to how Lent is in preparation for Easter. The term “Advent” derives from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival”. It refers to the period immediately before Christmas, during which time one might prepare for the symbolic birth of Christ each year.
Purple is historically the main colour used for Advent because it reflects penitence, fasting, and the colour of royalty to welcome the Advent of the King (Jesus Christ). Advent wreaths are symbolic of Advent. The purpose of Jesus’ coming into the world, of the "Word made flesh" and dwelling among us is to reveal God and His grace to the world through Jesus’ life and teaching, but also through his suffering, death, and resurrection.

Heavenly Father,
as we begin this Advent,
give light to our eyes and peace to our hearts.
May the Lord find us watching and waiting in joy when He comes.
We pray in Jesus' name.
Deputy Principal Announcement

It is with absolute pleasure that I announce that Mrs Lauren McCallum has been appointed the Deputy Principal for Holy Rosary Catholic School. Lauren is a passionate and experienced educator. In the past two years Lauren has worked tirelessly to support our staff, students and families and is extremely well deserving of this role. I have absolute faith in Lauren's ability to work beside myself and all of us to ensure the best outcomes for all in our school. I know you will all join with me in congratulating Lauren and offering her every support as she steps into this newly created role.
The new Deputy Principal role in primary schools has been created to work closely with the Principal, and together, they will form the senior leadership team in our schools. They will provide both strategic and day-to-day leadership of mission, evangelisation and learning within the school community to ensure the goals of Catholic Education Tasmania are achieved.
Grade 6 Leadership Positions 2019
On Monday we announced our Grade 6 Student leadership Positions for 2019. All Grade 5 students who prepared and delivered speeches are to be congratulated on putting themselves forward. For those students who were not successful we urge them to continue to remember that all Grade Six students are leaders in our school. Congratulations to the following students who have been elected by their peers and staff to Leadership Positions for 2019.

Canteen Accreditation

We are extremely proud to announce that we have received Gold Canteen Reaccreditation for the fourth year by the Tasmanian School Canteen Association. This award shows a continuing commitment to the health and wellbeing of our students. I would like to sincerely thank Mrs Alison Lange and Mrs Kylie McIntyre for all their work in always continuing to ensure that the health of our students is a top priority.

Orientation Day and Reports
On Monday 17th December all children will have an opportunity to spend some time in their new classroom and meet their new teachers and classmates. On this day the students will bring home reports, class lists and booklists.
End of Year Information
On Wednesday 19th December we will celebrate our Thanksgiving Liturgy and Award Evening for our Grade 6 class of 2018. The Liturgy commences at 6.00pm in the St Bernard’s Hall. There is a school expectation that students from Grade 3 to 5 will attend the Liturgy and Awards Evening to support and recognise the achievements of our 2018 Grade 6 students. Students are to wear their formal school uniform. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 are most certainly invited and very welcome to attend but there is no expectation in relation to attendance for our younger students. We look forward to celebrating this very special event this evening with our community.
On Thursday 20th December we will hold our final assembly for students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. This assembly will commence at 11.30pm and conclude at 1.00pm. Parents and family members who attend this assembly are welcome to take students home at the conclusion of the assembly.
2019 Preparation
If parents know that they will not be continuing enrolment of their child/children at Holy Rosary Catholic School in 2019 please let the Office know as soon as possible, as we have students on a waiting list for positions.
Basketball Championships in Launceston
Our Grade 3/4 boys and Grade 5/6 boys Basketball Teams did an excellent job at the State Primary School Basketball Championships in Launceston. A huge thank you to our wonderful parents and coaches who travelled to Launceston to support the boys.

So much to do……..awesome
This year, grade 4 went to Orford for their school camp. Firstly they went to Richmond to see the model Village and to sketch the bridge built in 1823. After that grade 4 went to Spring Beach to settle in. They had some free play then went down to the beach for beach games and a sandcastle competition. Later on, it was time for a movie and a milo! Yum! Then it was time for bed. It's an awesome camp and we definitely recommend it!
